CONISTONE LIMESTONE PAVEMENT
Limestone pavement is one of the characteristic landforms of the Yorkshire Dales. Ancient glaciers scraped away the soil, leaving clints of limestone separated by deep grykes, in which plants can find a foothold. The resulting patterns and leading lines are a classic photographic subject. In this composition a hawthorn tree provides the necessary focal point. I made the image on an overcast evening in May and converted it to monochrome.
