SKELETON TREES

Dead Vlei in Namibia's Tsauchab River Valley lost its water supply some 700 years ago as a result of a migrating dune. The trees died and their skeletons stand preserved in the dry desert air. For this image, made at dawn before the sun reached the pan, I chose a particularly characterful old tree as my foreground, whilst a supporting cast of other trees give a sense of depth to the image.
