MEERKAT
Meerkats are insatiably curious. Living in groups, they forage communally with one on guard duty, standing upright watching for predators. This group in southern Namibia was habituated to people and took no notice as I lay down on the ground to get an eye-level view of the sentry. It was only afterwards that the landowner told me that a week previously, a photographer doing the same had been bitten on the nose!
