SOUTHERN CARACARA

Caracaras are South American falcons which resemble hawks and feed mostly on carrion. I photographed this one in Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park during light rain. It was sitting in a tree and took off as I approached on foot. It doesn’t pay to fill the frame with a bird that might spread its wings at any moment.
