GREEN VIOLET-EAR

When this Green Violet-Ear briefly hovered in my viewfinder, autofocus tracking locked on. I had pre-selected a shutter speed of 1/1250th second to freeze the fast-moving bird, but even so its beating wings are blurred. High speed synchronised flash brought the iridescent plumage to life. In order to record enough ambient light to give a natural-looking background, I used ISO 1600.
