BLACK-BROWED ALBATROSS COURTSHIP

Albatross mate for life. After spending much of the year alone, soaring over the southern ocean, they return to their nesting colony each spring and greet their partner with an elaborate courtship ritual. I photographed this pair in evening light on Saunders Island. The low angled sun has put catchlights in their eyes, which can be hard to achieve at other times of day owing to their brow ridges.
