Avebury in Winter

I captured this image on Avebury just before sunrise on a freezing December morning. The two essential elements are hard frost and a fabulous dawn sky. Although the view is looking towards the south-west, colour had enveloped the whole sky. I composed with the wedge-shaped stone on the right echoing the form of the tree clump on the left, giving balance to the image. The main road from Devizes to Swindon runs straight across the scene behind the stones. As it was a weekday, I had to wait for a few seconds gap in traffic before I pressed the shutter.
