TALISKER BAY

I made this image in mid-afternoon under an overcast sky, when the tide had receded to leave a huge beach of patterned sand. I like the way the clouds seem to echo the sand patterns and initally made an an almost abstract composition of only those two elements. I then found that with my 16mm lens at its widest setting I could just include the headlands at each side of the bay, which I think provide a sense of perspective and hold the composition together at its edges. I converted the image to monochrome to emphasise the patterns and texture of the beach and clouds.
