GIANT’S CAUSEWAY

I chose a portrait format to reveal both the scale and detailed formation of the Giant's Causeway on the Antrim Coast. On my first evening I made a panorama but on reviewing it I realised that dry basalt is too dark. On my second evening I went to the water's edge, to bring the rock to life. This image was made at 10.30pm, half an hour after sunset in mid June. Colour in the sky is reflected by rocks drenched by sea spray.
