PTARMIGAN

Ptarmigan are birds of arctic-alpine regions and I located this female in a high corrie on the flanks of Cairngorm mountain. As the snow melts in early April, she is in the process of changing from white winter plumage to mottled summer colouration. She appeared quite untroubled by my presence, so much so that the magnification of my 400mm lens was almost too great to get her in the frame!
