Cwm Idwal at Sunrise

Cwm Idwal is amongst the most compelling landscapes of Eryri National Park, and indeed of Britain. This steep-facing glacial corrie faces north and gets little direct sunlight at the beginning and end of the day. For a few weeks around midsummer, the sun rises so far to the north that it shines into the cwm, creating this beautiful interplay of light and shadow. The whole scene was perfectly reflected on a beautifully still morning. Captured on my Snowdonia in Spring Photography Tour, which will run again in 2025.
