Brighton West Pier
Brighton's West Pier was opened in 1866, closed in 1975, wrecked by storms in 2002 and destroyed by fire in 2003. Now only the metal framework remains, an iconic and much-loved structure on the city's seafront. It was a bleak, overcast day with little difference in tone between sea and sky. Ideal conditions for a four-minute exposure using a 10-stop neutral density filter soon after high tide. Framing the pier head between the remaining piles that once supported its deck creates a brutalist feel to the ruin.
