Boulders on Hunstanton Beach

Boulders on Hunstanton Beach revealed by the falling tide at sunset today. These curious features are formed from Carstone sandstone (the underlying bedrock) which has been eroded and rounded by the sea. Their regular grid-like layout arises from natural jointing in the sedimentary rock creating lines of weakness which have been infiltrated by water and expanded. To me they look like giant stepping stones and I enjoyed leaping from one to the next to find the best viewpoint.
