VERRAUX’S SIFAKA
Lemurs are probably the best known of Madagascar's extraordinary fauna, amongst which Verreaux's sifaka is one of the most photographed species. Its long hind legs are adapted to an arboreal existence but on level ground make locomotion on all fours impossible. Sifakas cross between trees by means of sideways leaps, as if they are dancing. I like the animated shadow cast by this one at Berenty Reserve.
