KING PENGUIN SLEEPING

Towards the end of a long day in flat light, I came across a king penguin asleep. I saw the potential for a tightly cropped portrait, in which the bird's white plumage is barely distinguishable from the white sand beach beyond. The emphasis of this image is on the colour and pattern of the penguin's head and neck, which take on an almost abstract quality.
