WINTER IN YELLOWSTONE

Yellowstone in winter is cold, with temperatures often dropping to -40 C. I made this image in early February close to Yellowstone Lake, which was covered in a thick layer of ice. In the background, steam is rising from hot springs in West Thumb Geyser Basin. Steam condensing onto the trees has coated them in rime ice, looking as if they have been dusted with icing sugar.
