EILEAN DONAN CASTLE AT HIGH TIDE
Eilean Donan is possibly the most photographed castle in the world. After several visits, I decided that high tide is a crucial factor in a successful photograph. This image was made on a overcast, rather gloomy day with light rain falling, which seems to suit the subject. I used a pile of lobster pots on a slipway as foreground and converted the resulting image to monochrome, emphasising their texture. For just a few minutes around high tide, the water was perfectly still, allowing a reflection to form. A few seconds later, the tide started to ebb and the reflection was gone.
