Strawberry Moon, Durdle Door

Strawberry (June) Full Moon shining through Durdle Door rock arch, Dorset

This summer sees the Full Moon rising and setting close to its extreme southernmost points on the horizon and remaining exceptionally low in the sky all night. These phenomena result from an upcoming Major Lunar Standstill, the term given to relative positions of the Earth, Moon and Sun which occur every 19 years. I made use of this to capture this image of reflected light from June’s Full Moon forming a golden path through the south-facing rock arch of Durdle Door.
