Milky Way over Kimmeridge Bay
My vision was to capture the core of the Milky Way arching over Clavell Tower, with a foreground of striated rock platform and a reflection of the night sky in a rock pool. This is only possible when low tide coincides with the galactic core rising in the south-east (and the tenants of Clavell Tower have their bedroom light turned off). I captured the shot at 4am during a spring low tide. The sky and reflections comprise 20 stacked frames of 15 seconds at F/2 and ISO 12,800 plus 12 dark frames for noise reduction. The foreground is a single frame of 8 minutes at f/2.8 and ISO 1600. I like the way the silvery light of the Milky Way is reflected in both the rock pool and the sea.
