Amethyst Deceiver

Amethyst deceiver (Laccaria amethystina) in Savernake Forest. There is something other-worldly about fungi. I prefer to photograph them on dull days as I can control the lighting, in this case a daylight-balanced hand-torch at minimum power to bring shape and texture to life whilst avoiding casting strong shadows. To get the whole mushroom sharp I made four exposures at f/16 at different points of focus and focus-stacked them.
