BEECH CLUMP AND STAR TRAILS

These beech trees stand on the edge of Salisbury Plain with a good northern aspect, needed for star trails. I photographed them in March before they were in leaf, making one hundred 30-second exposures. However, the length of the star trails was limited by mist fogging my lens as the temperature dropped. I like the way the tips of the beech branches, where new leaf buds are forming, appear red in my torchlight.

F/3.5, 100 30-second exposures blended in Photoshop, ISO 400
